Drummer John Blackwell Interview - Seminole Music & Sound

On October 19th, 2009, John Blackwell sat down with DrummerConnection.com's Damian King, Billy Ashbaugh and Eric Rosebrock after his drum clinic at Seminole Music & Sound. DrummerConnection.com closely follows John Blackwell's progress into the ranks of legendary drummers. The Drummer Connection crew has reserved a special place in our hearts for John Blackwell. He's a very special, gentle person who has inspired us through his amazing ability to not only play the drums, but understand music as a whole. John has deep roots in music, and he has proven in every aspect that if you believe in yourself, and what you like to do, that you will become successful.

John Blackwell was also a distinguished drummer performing in the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert, 2008 at the Hammerstein Ball Room in Manhattan, New York. The Drummer Connection staff attended this coveted event and witnessed John Blackwell's amazing performance which received an extended standing ovation. He was not alone however, John Blackwell also performed with Neil Peart, Terry Bozzio, Nick Rich, Donnie Marple, Peter Erskine, Tommy Igoe, Chad Smith and The Buddy Rich Band, all of which gave explosive performances that could not be compared to one another. You can purchase this excellent DVD produced by Drum Channel online or at your local music store. It is an amazing DVD, very well produced and an exceptional job on the documentation of this long awaited event.

John Blackwell has an extensive history in music and drumming stemming from his father John Blackwell Sr. who was also a drummer. John watched his father and noted his incredible pocket, which he still talks about to this day. Through his father's inspiration, John attended Berklee College, and was called upon from Cameo to become the group's new drummer. Leaving Berklee to pursue the stars, John has been on an incredible career path ever since. Performing with Cameo, Justin Timberlake, Prince and several other artists, he has proven that he could make his way.

John Blackwell also spends an incredible amount of his time teaching and giving drum clinics. DrummerConnection.com has attended over 5 of John's clinics over the past 3 years and every one of them have been incredible. He also gives private lessons at Seminole Music & Sound periodically throughout the year.
