Paul Quin - Drummer / Music Attorney Interview

The music industry is made up of various players including individuals, companies, unions, not-for-profit organizations, rights collectives, and other associated bodies. Occasionally professional musicians negotiate their wages, contractual conditions, and other arrangements through Musicians' Unions or other guilds. But the industry also embodies an all too familiar "dark side" filled to the brim with legal pitfalls that the unwary musician can fall into. Issues ranging from contract disputes concerning royalties extending to losing any and all legal rights pertaining to the music they've worked so hard to create. These days without the proper representation one can find themselves in a situation which tends to exploit the talents and life's work of the artists involved. With so much on the line it would be unfortunate to lose it all due to an impetuous decision and a little bit of fine print. To give our members more clarity on this complex and sensitive matter Drummer Connection had to chance to speak with a true legal professional by the name of Paul M. Quin. Residing in Tampa, FL Paul Quin is a partner at Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A.

In addition to providing legal representation to some of the industry's most prominent drummers, Paul himself has also spent many years as a professional drummer and remains an active presence in the music industry. He is truly a "lawyer for all drummers" if there ever were one. Whether handling record contracts, legal disputes, company endorsements or if you're just getting your first band started-Paul can provide meaningful insight and advice to the professional and non-professional alike.
