It’s time to continue our journey into the Funk Shuffle Groove. Today we’re going to expand our rhythms on the kick by introducing the “e” and the “a”. Don’t forget to download the PDF for 12 one bar patterns to workout with. Remember, even though you’re reading 16th notes, be sure and swing the patterns for the Funk Shuffle feel.
Today’s lesson is going to continue with the same concept as Part 1. We’re still keeping a steady flow of 16th Note Triplets as doubles while we practice playing the Rhythms from the PDF download as rimshots. This lesson gets a little more challenging as we expand our Rhythms to include the first and last triplet. Remember to try and keep all the doubles between the accents nice and clean! Enjoy.
For Part 1 we put together a Linear Groove that consists of a 3 beat sticking pattern that repeats to make a one bar groove. At the end of the lesson we worked on accenting every single hit on the snare drum. Today we’re going to begin accenting every 2 note combination within the groove. There are a total of 10. Today’s lesson will take a look at the first 5. Enjoy!
In today’s lesson it’s time to expand our Rhythms that we’re playing on the kick drum to include the last two triplets. For now keep the shuffle hi-hat pattern with no ghost notes on the snare, just a solid 2 and 4 back beat. Note placement can get a little tricky here so be patient! Enjoy.
Today’s lesson is going to expand our concept of slipping 32nd note combinations between the kick, snare and hi-hat in a groove setting. In Part 1 we started the flow off of a backbeat. Now in Part 2 the combination will start off of a kick drum hit. Remember to slow this stuff down at first! Enjoy.
In Part 4, we’re going to look at the concept of playing two 16th notes back to back on the kick drum. We’re still keeping steady 8th’s on the hi-hat with 2 & 4 on the snare. The PDF download will provide you with 12 one bar grooves to practice. For anyone just getting into this concept, this is a great chop builder for your kick drum foot. Enjoy!
Today’s lesson will take a look at a rudiment called the Flam Paradiddle. I’ll break the sticking down and then show you a few ways to use it as a warm-up on the kit. Enjoy!
For todays groove concept, we’re going to keep the same hand pattern but now move the hi-hat part over to the Ride. After adding every & or upbeat on the hi-hat with your foot, it’s time to download the PDF file and start getting busy reading rhythms with the kick drum. This one can get challenging. Enjoy!
This lesson will begin our journey into 16th Note Triplet Funk Groove ideas. We’re going to be breaking up the patterns between kick, snare and hi-hat. Today’s idea will be based off of the Paradiddle-Diddle. Enjoy!
In this lesson I will break down and explain the Flamacue. Enjoy!
