http://bangthedrumsquickly.com In this lesson we go over a couple brush patterns (a basic pattern, and ballad pattern). We also go over some lics to go with the patterns. When practicing the brushes you want to maintain a good sound, and the best way to achieve that is by making sure the left hand circling is played in time. Good brush playing requires a lot of the same skills as when playing with sticks, such as keeping a good feel and sound, listening to and accompanying the soloist, and also soloing. but thats another story. This is being posted for the forum members over at Doc's Rock Band Mods. A basic 8th note rock beat for 3 measures and a 1 measure fill that contains flams on the snare, 8th notes on the kick, and 16th notes on the toms. http://www.docsrockbandmods.net/ Namike recently started drum lessons and this was his assignment this week. Some members of the forum wanted to see/hear it played, so I recorded it last night. This video was mostly an experiment to see how my new drum mics and mixer setup would sound. All I used in this one was 2 kick mics and 1 condenser overhead mic. This is a Pearl Session Studio Birch drum set with Pearl Eliminator pedals and Sabian AA & AAX cymbals.

I thought it would be cool to share a Mozambique Hand Pattern I came up with over the years. I’m not really sure how it evolved to what it is…but it sounds pretty cool! Enjoy!
This lesson is your introduction to playing the middle triplet on the kick drum during a 1/2 Time Shuffle Groove. Because the middle triplet can be more difficult, we’re going to simplify the hand pattern by taking out all of the ghost notes on the snare drum for now.
