...is very popular with the local indie-singer-songwriters of the Portland area, usually with brushes, or Blasticks. I have used it too many times, to their satisfaction over the last few years.
For a great example, listen to Ginger Baker's duet with Jack Bruce from Cream's "Wheels of Fire" album, called "Traintime".
Also, I remember seeing Buck Owen's drummer (I think) doing it with double-stroke rolls.
