WATCHED THIS VID TO SEE IF YOU HAVE SOME SNARE POINTERS, I LOVE BILLYS SNARE ON THE YOUTUBE VIDEO WITH TIMBERLAKE BEAT BOXING, AND CHANGED FLOOR TOM HEAD THAT NIGHT BEFORE PRACTICE. LOW AND BEHOLD, I DIDNT LISTEN AND HAD A SCREW BUZZING AROUND THE RESO HEAD AND THAT WOULD HAVE SUCKED LIVE MAN! GOOD POINTER. LOVE THIS SITE. KEITH

besides most of bob gatsens stuff, you are very reputable in my book. love the site and push it all the time to my students and fellow drummers. you are very talented. i rec ord and tour with several projects and have a hard time getting my snare consistent from room to room. i trigger my kick for that reason, but do you think the snare triggering in smaller venues is worth while? note: all time favorite snare tone is your vid with justin timberlake beat boxing. give a little hint on achieving that, orthe reason we are unable to achieve that! i run an alessis d4 and an auto comp for kick and snare. just kick triggered though. 13x7 tama metalworks with black x, ambass reso, and puresound blasters. i always end up with super tight heads to get that crack pop, and take it just a touch off being choked to get depth back. your thoughts? am i just trying to achieve what is only gonna come from a brass picallo? check some of the keith feulner videos i posted to get an idea of what the outcome is. the bluesy funk jam, pop rock, or drummerconnection.com tune are the cleanest snare so far. thanks in advance billy. keith

Wow...thanks man! I really appreciate that.
As for triggering in small venues, I'm not really sure it would translate out front if it can't be put in the PA and be part of the mix....I guess it depends though.
Thanks for the compliments on the snare sound. A lot of what you hear has to do with the processing and mix our front of house guy...I got lucky :) I actually tune much like you do. Top & bottom heads are very, very tight. I think tuning this way helps the snare to project and the sound really fits the music. The snare I used was not a brass piccolo, but it still had that sound through tuning, micing & processing. Hope this helps!
I'll be sure and check out some stuff you posted...
Thanks,
Billy

I tune my batter head on my bass drum just tight enough to where my claws dont wiggle at all. same thing with the resonant side. This gives me alot of power, things have been know to fall of shelves in my room because of that.
