REMO pinstripes are probably one of the best when it comes to sound, durability, availability, and all around sound quality-no matter what style you play. On a less expensive kit, I THINK (just me) Evans hydraulic can make a pearl export sound like a professional kit, until the heads wear out and detune. Personally, I use Evans EC 2 Clear for my batter heads and the Evans HD Genera Dry for the snare head, but to each their own. I hope this helps.

I do actually, I have got a cheap kit which I bought years ago to start off with and has original factory skins and I was looking at upgrading them for some decent one's. Can you recommend?
