This is Todd Walker,a Florida resident who operates a drum studio out of the Port St. Lucie area. In addition to being a session/studio player and instructor Todd performs with one of Florida's most premier groups Bobby and the Blister's. You can find out more about Todd by checking out his website and some more of these great instructional vids! Now we get to learn some more odd time madness as Todd shows us a groove in 5/4. I love how he just breaks everything down in such a simple fashion, it's very easy to understand whether you have the vocabulary or not. What's really cool about this groove is that it starts out sounding like a funk groove, but later as he speeds it up it turns into a breakbeat. Tell me what you think. http://toddwalkerdrumstudio.com

Here's the first lesson I shot from the Drum Room. This is warm up exercise I'll call Diddle Combo #1. It's a combination of paradiddles and double paradiddles. I plan on posting more of these exercises in the near future. Feel free to share some Diddle Combo's of your own....enjoy!! Example #1 - Paradiddle w/ accents Example #2 - Double Paradiddle w/ accents Example #3 - Diddle Combo #1Â Example #4 - Diddle Combo w/ click
Here's an introduction to the Double Paradidde.Example #1 - with feet Example #2 - Paradiddle & Double Paradiddle Â
Here's a basic introduction for the paradiddle. Example #1 - Counted as Quarter Notes  Example #2 - Counted as 8th Notes Example #3 - Counted as 16th Notes  Example #4 - with feet
Paradiddle-Diddles help alleviate the stress of having to crank out 16th notes at high speed. By placing the 1st accent on a different tom,or cymbal, you can play what I like to refer to as the infamous "jazz fill".
This is the overall breakdown of the Paradiddle. This lesson also gives other examples of how to play the paradiddle not only as a rudiment itself, but how to incorporate it into a beat or drum fill. Such examples can include - placing the 1st accent on the toms, or breaking it up over several toms along the kit.
