I've had many requests for a lesson on what to do with the hi-hat to spice up grooves. Here are a few simple ideas for which you can find many applications. The lesson is continued (including a cool Vinnie Colaiuta lick) on my lessons page at www.joecrabtree.com/lessons
In Part 2, we continue to work on controlling the hi-hat in a groove setting. Here’s a couple more ideas to try. Enjoy!
It's time to expand even more on your 8th note grooves! In today’s lesson we’re going to practice moving both the kick & snare around within the groove catching the “e” and “a” while still keeping steady 8th notes on the hi-hat.
In today’s lesson I’m going to discuss a great way to get more mileage from your practice time with method books or sheets. By swinging the notes, you’ll open up a whole new area to explore!
For this lesson, Kevin & I are going to expand our Dual Drumming Exercise to include Groups of 5. Things get a little crazier this time….enjoy!
In Part 4, it’s time to expand our possibilities by adding the “e” and “a” to our rhythms. Things are starting to get funky!!
It’s always exciting when two drummers can get together and jam. For this lesson, Kevin and I are going to give you a couple of ideas for two drummers to practice playing Groups of 3 on the kit. This stuff is fun…enjoy!!
This is another lesson for all the people out there just getting started on the kit. Today we’re going to spice up your beats by adding several different 16th note patterns on the snare drum while keeping steady 8th notes on the hi-hat. Hope you enjoy!!
