Review on MRP Drums from NAMM 2008

by ThatDrummerKid on Thu, 01/24/2008 - 17:54

MRP Drums, based out of Oceanside New York were one of the more interesting custom drum companies we visited while attending 2008's NAMM Music Convention. Their booth consisted of two beautiful kits, featuring their main kit up front. It was an eight piece setup in white (with white hardware), and this extravagant tribal design throughout the finish. What was astounding was the fact that the drums sounded very deep considering it was a short-stack kit.

This is me trying out the kit and getting a feel for the pedals.

This is another NAMM visitor trying out MRP drums.

Some Features of MRP Drums:

MRP drums are all made to order, and this is telling that there is no "cookie-cutter" drums here. Everything made is custom, and this is what makes MRP a truly custom drum company. You have choices of hardware color, various drum sizes, finishes and the list goes on. Being a custom drum company is what really makes the product special, knowing that it was made for you.

MRP's hardware is a great compliment to their drums. They are different in that the alloy used is stronger and lighter that most other drum companies. This is great for the "on the go" drummer that looks for mobility. Another great feature to MRP's hardware is that unlike most companies, they offer it in black chrome. This color brings off a Nickel-like finish that just looks great when matched to MRP's black chrome lugs, and hoops.

If you get the chance to see what MRP has to offer, be sure to check out the "LightSpeed" pedals from. They are very unique because they have a two-sided foot board that can be switched from the "traction side" to the "smooth side". With a strap drive, and the Light-weight aircraft quality aluminum, these pedals have the speed and endurance for the everyday drummer.

All of us at DrummerConnection have personally met and spoken with the reps. from MRP. After testing their product, we left with a great overall impression on the company. MRP Drums is a great source for custom drums and we suggest taking a look at what they have to offer.
