Thousands of drum corps fanatics descended upon the Florida Citrus Bowl Saturday night to witness the 2008 DCI Orlando Premier Event. I was lucky enough to make it there early so I could catch a few of the drumlines warming up and was able to get a few good videos from several drumlines in the area. Here is a quick clip of Crossmen going at it.
It was hard to choose a favorite as all 10 corps displayed amazing talent upon taking the field for competition. Surprisingly, The Boston Crusaders had a HUGE turn out from their supporting fans as the stadium erupted as they entered the field. Others such as The Bluecoats, The Colts, and Glassmen kept the audience entertained with their dazzling display of music and carefully choreographed marching drill. Thankfully all of the judges made it around the field without getting run over.
At the conclusion Carolina Crown made history by surpassing the Cadets for the first time ever to take the gold medal. Winning by just half a point Carolina Crown executive director Kevin Smith pleased to say, “This is a pretty big night for us. To win a big weekend show like this and to do it over a great corps like the Cadets with all of their history is just amazing.”
Afterwards Carolina Crown and The Cadets teamed up to perform " America the Beautiful" followed by an encore from The Cadets. Although the crowd was little confused why the 2nd place corps was performing they seemed to get a better response than that of the actual show itself.
Afterwards we stopped by the buses to see what life was like after the show. All around you could see performers from the various groups mingling together. Some happy, some sad, and some just happy to meet with friends and family to secure some home cooking and care packages before heading off to the next stop along the tour.
Then after a long day of work it was time to head home...and then CRASH!!!!
