Last week Drummer Connection was given a special invitation to come and tour the ddrum facility in Tampa, FL. Founded in 1983 as a private company ddrum is now a division of Armadillo Enterprises Inc. that manufacturers drums, percussion, and electronic drum triggers.

Founded in the Spring of 1995 Armadillo is a distributor of musical instruments and owns ddrum, Luna Guitars and Dean Guitars, which happens to have a guitar design shop located in the same building. The first Dean guitars were released in the mid-1970s and featured designs including "pointy" guitar bodies and large V-shaped headstock. These designs quickly gained popularity because of their radical look. We were greeted by one of these monsters in the main lobby, along with an AMAZING custom chopper.

After the initial shoock and awe of the lobby it was time to collect ourselves to begin the tour. Check out the video below to see what it's like to get up close and personal with ddrum!

One particular trait that stands out about ddrum is that in addition to their exotic wood kits, they have a new line of Ash Kits that are now in production. Long revered for it's resonant properties in the construction of acoustic guitars, ash is just now starting to be used for drums with ddrum leading the charge.In addition ddrum is one of several manufacturers that offers customers the ability to customize their own kit from a number of criteria including shell dimensions, finish, and hardware options in what they call the "USA Custom Shop."

Not only are these kits beautiful, but are extremely durable. In the video below Terry Platt- ddrum Divisional Manager gives us a demonstration.

ddrum also produces deccabons,(pictured above) which are similar in concept to octobans, except that there are ten drums in a full set (hence "decca") as opposed to eight ("octo"). All deccabons are six inches in diameter. They are available with shells made from either clear acrylic or black fiberglass. Drum depths range from 6 inches to 24 inches in 2 inch increments. They make a great addition to any kit so make sure to ask your nearest ddrum dealer to order you a set ASAP!
