It is so easy to sit down behind the kit and want to start wailing out tunes and not really focusing on the details. This is an excellent video that really lays out really good reminders that any drummer should follow. Thanks Billy and DC!

Making mistakes is part of the learning process! Being open & listening to good advice, like Billy is giving here [thanks, btw!], is a good thing.
May I add a few things that crossed my mind while watching the video.
1. I've been recording myself (practicing alone & rehearsing with bands) using my Apple laptop's built-in microphone. The quality is surprisingly good! (I'll soon give my new MacBook Pro's built-in camera a try.)
2. Keeping track of one's progress is a great idea. Agree 100 %.
3. Slowing stuff down is also important. Slow tempi can be very tricky.
4. My mentor, Joe Huss, always recommended to *not* play at 100 % of your ability at a gig/rehearsal, so you would still be able to comfortably pull off the show even on a bad day.

Thanks patrice, i am doing my recordings on a handycam, not bad for listening to mistakes, advice 3 is also a good thing, the 4th advise is also good because most of us thing that giving our 100% ability, is the best thing, but your mentor had a reason and the experience, to do so.
thanks for the great advise, i apreciate good drummers sharing knowledge with intermediate drummers like me, and believe me these three past weeks i´ve learned a lot whit you guys thanks a lot, maybe later i will have the chance to thank your good will!

This is good stuff! There are a few (!) weaknesses in my playing ability, so I'm going to take your advice and record my gigs this weekend. Thsnks for that!

Thanks Billy. I'm returning to the drums after a long absence, so I feel pretty overwhelmed with all the various things to practice. The first question I have been asking myself is exactly what this covers: how to practice. Thanks for the advice. I think this will give me some better direction than what I've been doing lately. Thanks again!
