@ cc: Yeah, I know what you mean. You need to discuss who actually cues the end hit....drummer, lead singer, guitarist?? If not, you're headin' for a train wreck :) It's the sort of thing that gets tighter the more the same group of players do it. Bands who have been playing together for a while really have this down!! Thanks for checking out the lesson!

Thanks Billy. It's funny......when the big ending comes, the band is turned around looking at me, I'm doing the ending "fills" and when I come down to crash, there always seems to be that one person who jumps down off beat or the guitarist who doesn't bring his ax down with the crash. Looks kind of funny. Does that make sense?

It's like, "who's ending this?' The drummer ending with the crash or the lead singer who jumps up/down or the guitarist who brings his ax down?

Then, I see bands where the drummer ends with the crash, then does like a single stroke four on the toms/kick after the ending crash.

cowboyplayindrummer Says intros and the endings

Topical as usual. If I am guitaring or bassing, I can't begin to tell you how many drummists have this particular problem. When I am the drummist, I try to keep it simple but tasty.

Yesterday was a perfect example. I was playing at a jam session. And so far as endings go. I just kept it simple and to the point. Often times drummists want to throw all their chops into that ending and it can get lost or muddled with the other instrumentation. I cannnot over emphasize yet again, how keeping things simple says more most times. Perhaps someday I'll write a treatise on this subject if Drum Freak will let me lol.

Looks like you got this one workin ok :)
Nice lesson Billy.. I had always wondered how bands handled these situations ( as far as ending all together ) other than using a visual cue. Most of the time I have seen it live the band seems to kinda face the drummer or eachother and I have guessed it was done simply off of a visual cue. Good to know how the magic happens !!

Well it is very "juvenile" but at the moment being as I only have a practice pad....... Do you have any rudiment type training or some hand control exercises you could show or suggest. I dont want to take up your valuable time with something so elementary so even if you just have a suggestion on where to get some info or just want to type it up it would be greatly appreciated.
I would just love to have something to get me started a little bit.

Rudiment practice is awesome! It helps develop reliance on the wrists and improves technique. Billy is a master of these and after 35+ years of playing rudiments, I still practice them. You have to if you want to stay on top of your game.

Thanks for the input man. I'll definitely keep that in mind. I wanted to start practicing at the core also instead of trying to jump into everything else to soon.
Thanks Again,
