I realize some time has passed since this vid was made, but consider the following:
1. Change the velocity (loudness/softness) of the strokes to simulate ghost notes. Maybe not quite full fledged, but then again what if they were REALLY quiet?
2. While doing the above, keep 2 and 4 strong.
3. Experiment with the above by keeping it only on the snare while allowing the toms to be full volume.
4. Practice back the original way, but at various dynamic levels. Can you play the groove and fill at pianississimo? What about full volume?

i hope. theres a few great books (come on its not that bad) out there. The one that id sugest for this is Mike Johnston (<-- close i hope mike?)linear fills. the great thing about it is he breaks it down to the raw beat and then amps it all that way to the final sexy sweet fill that will make you say "i had that fill already" but you know u didnt. lol. anyways, check it out. if i get a shot ill do a vid for ya even though i do play metal. always good to expand from your main and have back ups.

DUDE...that is one of the SWEETEST sounds i've ever heard. such sounds could only be captured during mid-coitus haha...but seriously some soul stuff you've just displayed. could you explain in detail what a "linear beat/fill" is? i've honestly haven't come across that phrase and i'm hungry for more knowledge! thanks dude!

Sounds great. This is something I definitely want to start getting into. I have the beat in my head so I might just try it out for myself!

Other than the left hand lag that you pointed out it sounds good. As far as the beat goes.. You could try mix in some light snare strokes in place of the extra sticks on the HH's or put some kicks in on the uh's of 1 and 3. However, i think what your doing sounds good.. You can experiment with add and subtracting certain strokes on different notes in time. Ex. snare on the "and" and "uh" of 2 and then snare on the 4, "e" and the "uh" of four.. Does this make sinse.. I think i just went crosseyed!

X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-|------------------------ HH
----X-xx----Xx-x------------------------- Snare
I may have confused you and myself more than i have helped. Its just easier to play than explain!
