I'm in the process of writing songs with a band I'm with, and I know when it comes to recording, I'm going to have some parts that will need to be sampled live. i'm wondering what kind of sampler I should look at getting (used or new) and how do I upload the sounds on to one of them? And also, how cheap can I get one for?

Go with the roland spd 20 or its sampeling brother. I use one and its great. It has 4 trigger inputs plus 8 pads. You wont need any more sounds than this unit offers and if you do you can go midi and get any sound you need. I actually play live shows with this unit. I bought a snare pad and the hh controller and made my kick trigger out of wood and my old remo practice pad with a piezeo pick up taped to it.(now I can use my regular kick pedal!)I wasted 2 roland kd7 triggers never get one they are crap if you kick the crap out of your kick.
Seriously a powerful tool. worth every penny of the 700 bucks it will cost you.
