Aquarian VS. Evans drumheads

saigon - Tue, 11/03/2009 - 20:58 | 2,569 views

Ok, After so many years of playing, I see technology and goals achieving fast in drum companies. So now let's ask....what is the difference between Aquarian drumheads and Evans when it comes to quality? I hear this is better because that or this is better because that. For all the drummers out there with experienceho have tried them all on any high quality drumset using maple shells...what's you opinion on these guys. Forget Remo, for I have issues with their heads on my dw drums and other makers as well. I like the materials used to make a Remo head, but their technology or philosophy doesn't work on my drums or most drums. No endorsees on this topic, for you guys get free gear or paid to say your products are better. Let's ask the drummer who works hard and has to pay for everything and looking to buy heads that LAST.

right now i have aquarian classic clear on the bottom and coated remo ambassadors on top. I know what you mean about the fit of the remo head on the drum cause i use DW, but i've been told, when you get a head it is a good idea to set the head, by pressing in the center of the head. When i first tried this with the remo's, i heard the glue crack and at first thought that it was a bad thing, but they are the best sounding heads i've used on my DW thus far since i tried the super 2's and studio x's on my kit. I've tried Evans a few times, i def did not like the ec1's... oh yeah super kick II all the way (front head too).

the aquarian superkick ll is the real deal the evans didn't project as well and played stiff. It helps to have both aquarian heads too. I have pearl brich kit the kick came alive with the aquaiarn. My snare I use a coated pinstripe I can do brush things and still get that good crack. I do a gig that the house drums have evans I just do not like the fell or that flat sound the sound man likes them less overtones. But as they say diffrent stokes

I've tried the EMAD and the Superkick II on my kick and Aquarian takes my vote. They gave me the best sound on my kick I've ever had. On the contrary though, I dont think ill buy other than EC2's for my toms, they sound sooo dam good i love em.

I am a big fan of Evans but that does not mean they are the best, finding the heads that not only suit you and your style of playing as well as the environment you are playing in and dare I say it to suit your shell pack.

UNless the cheap and nasty skins are included in a sweeping statement I feel I can safely say you need to find the heads that you prefer and suit you, the whole subject of which is best can be rather ambiguous and very opinion orientated.

If it boils down to build quality or durability again I think that is more a matter of general experience. I am certainly no expert on the matter but if I were to change the style of music I was going to play then I would certainly consider the skins I have and whether they would be best suited. Extreme example would perhaps be moving from playing very mellow music to playing thrash metal etc..

I agree the Superkick kicks but. The Evans EMAD Heads have fallen apart on me way too many times.

The Aquarian X are the only aquarians ive played on, other than the super kick II. Sounds nice. But like they guys say, EVANS takes my vote. Durability & versatility. Not to mention the description of sound on every package you get! remo rocks too..=)

Someone told me that Evans are incredible heads, but don't last long, specially within the week if you are the working drummer rehearsing 3-4 days a week.

That's a stumper, both are GREAT companies with good quality products. I prefer Evans because to me they have a bit more variety and the majority of all music stores carry them. However, Aquarian heads have a GREAT sound to them-especially their snare and kick drum batter heads. Those are the only type of Aquarian heads I've played with, snare/kick. Their Superkick 2 is one of the best batter heads you can buy. So is the Evans Emad-a little more versatility with sound options due to the removable muffling ring but some people have had issues with them tearing. To each their own I guess. I have an acoustic kit w/ a 15 in tom so buying them in a set is obsolete, usually I go with Evans.

hmm ,well for the past few years I'v been using Evans heads on my drums, they are super durable, the quality is outstanding (except for their EMAD kick heads sometimes) But i love the coated g2s cause the coating lasts longer than Remo's

I think they all make exceptional heads when it comes to Remo, Evans, Aquarian. I like them all. It just depends on what you want to buy seriously. I switched out my top evans heads for Remo pinstripes this time around. I have an Aquarian Superkick on my kick. I have a Remo head on my snare. The bottom heads are EVANs. It doesn't really matter unless you're endorsed and get them for free. Just my opinion...
