In today’s lesson I’m going to break down and explain the Para Triplet. Enjoy!
Today's lesson is very similar to Applying Triplets to Fills Part 1. We're still going to practice playing the basic accent patterns (from the Triplet Rhythms PDF download) as rim shots on the snare drum while keeping the steady flow of 8th note Triplets going in between. For today's workout, now all of the accents must be played with your right hand. This concept will force you to use various mixed sticking patterns to achieve this steady flow. I'll give you some examples of patterns that work for me. Hopefully you'll be able to use your creativity and experiment with some sticking patterns of your own. This is a great way to work on developing your own voice or personality for the kit. Remember, you have to keep the steady flow going in between all of the right hand accents. This one can be a little challenging. Just start off very slow and gradually build up speed.
It's time for some ghost notes!! We're going to introduce this concept for the Blues Shuffle hand pattern by adding the middle triplets for beats 1 and 3 on the snare drum tapped as ghost notes. This can take some time to get down smoothly. We'll begin our journey by playing the Rhythms from the PDF download on the kick drum. Enjoy!
Today's lesson is going to expand on the concept we started in Part 1. I'm going to share two more ideas today. We're still starting this 16th note triplet flow right off of a back beat, but now we're going to involve the kick drum a bit more as well as switch up the sticking. Remember to start slow and gain control before you try to speed this stuff up.
This lesson is going to explore a fill idea that phrases groups of 5 over a steady flow of 16th note triplets. Because this concept can be a little tricky, in part 1 we're going to concentrate on getting the sticking and phrasing down on the snare drum while bringing in the feet underneath as a great warm up exercise. We'll begin to move this idea around the kit in Part 2.
In Part 5 we’re going to take a look at the final combination to play on the kick drum in a groove setting, the first two triplets. Anything involving the middle triplet can be tricky and this figure is no exception. Remember to be patient and go at your own pace.
In today's lesson I'll break down a Tribal Tom Groove I created years ago that is based on 8th Note Triplets. Enjoy!
In Part 4, it’s time to expand the Rhythms we’re playing on the kick drum during our 1/2 Time Shuffle Workout. Today’s PDF download is going to introduce the last two triplets as a possibility. There’s still no ghost notes on the snare, just a solid beat 3 for the backbeat. Be patient, this stuff gets challenging!
Today’s lesson is going to continue with the same concept as Part 1. We’re still keeping a steady flow of 16th Note Triplets as doubles while we practice playing the Rhythms from the PDF download as rimshots. This lesson gets a little more challenging as we expand our Rhythms to include the first and last triplet. Remember to try and keep all the doubles between the accents nice and clean! Enjoy.
In today’s lesson it’s time to expand our Rhythms that we’re playing on the kick drum to include the last two triplets. For now keep the shuffle hi-hat pattern with no ghost notes on the snare, just a solid 2 and 4 back beat. Note placement can get a little tricky here so be patient! Enjoy.
