Hey all! My last gig was at the Sand Bar Cafe in Carlsbad, CA on a Saturday night in late August, 1992. It's a small joint...postage stamp stage...so so accoustics but a good sound man w/ a great mixer. We played this place almost every weekend, making us a pseudo "house band". It was especially crowded that night due to the influx of UCSD kids comming back to school. Add that to the usuals from the area and they managed to pack in to capacity before 9 p.m., which meant we were gonna get paid! Anyway, we played mainly original music w/ a few covers to fill in space on headlining nights. Played 3 good sets and packed up around 2:30 a.m., got paid and went home. A few days later, I bid farewell to 3 fingertips in a machine at my day job...so much for my music career...so I thought until this spring. I ride w/ a motorcycle club here in Michigan. This May, the club threw a bash at the clubhouse and one of the brothers, the drummer in the member band asked if I could sit in on his kit for a set while he took his old lady home for some "activity". Well, I agreed and took my position behind Sped's Starclassics and reviewed the song list, relieved to find familiar tunes-classic rock and some contemporary stuff I had played before...then...panic! 120 bikers and their old ladies, citizens and other guests...rowdy w/ booze and smoke and wanting good, loud music. I had my first case of stage fright since I was 16 years old! I must have looked confused or something cause the lead guitarist smacked me in the head and told me to wake the #@$% up! Anyway...when the intro to "You Shook Me"(all night long) by AC/DC came pouring out of the Marshalls...BOOM...everything came together. I managed to get through the set w/o screwing up too bad, but I could feel the 17 years of rust that built up in my bones...but it felt Freakin Awesome! Last month, Sped transferred to another chapter closer to his new home and I was asked by the band if I would like to take his place. Hell Yeah! Sped left me his old Rockstar DX kit to use until I get my own again...super cool of the brother to do that. It's gonna take some time to get up to speed again, and being a few fingertips short, a little more challenging too. Anyway, that's how I ended up on a drummers throne again.

I don't know King...I've wanted to for a long time. I guess something always has to happen to get things in motion. Then his Tamas came up for sale for the right price less than a week later and...well...the rest is history...never puttin the sticks down again while I'm still breathing.
Boone Hawks Says Memories of the "Boss" Bruce Springsteen
Submitted On: Saturday, Jan 9, 2010 - 11:30 AM
Hi !
Boone Hawks here.
This is just a short story on my memories of Bruce Springsteen.
I lived in Pt. Pleasant N.J. on Howe St. close to the Loveland town bridge.
From 1956-1974...it was a very small neighborhood, I could see most of the houses from the front window.
I had never heard of Bruce Springsteen, but I had seen a Red? Yellow? Corvette parked in the driveway of one of the neighbor's houses.
It would show up now and again and I asked my grandmother who lived there?
She said Mrs.Springsteen (it turned out to be Bruce's grandmother).
Now, mind you, this area..was my stompin' ground, Pt.Pleasant, Belmar,
Asbury Park and Freehold N.J.
I was in High School when Bruce came to play there, I didn't see the show.
So, in 1979 I was in a Wedding Band called "Fare Share" and we were hired to play a wedding reception in Rumson N.J.
I said good, they said "at Bruce Springsteen's house"! By then I had heard of him. I said "WOW"!
The house was located off of Rumson Rd. up a long, long driveway.
We showed up expecting to meet Bruce Springsteen, Ahh, Nope.
Turned out that he let his friends use the place for the wedding.
It was a 2 story brick mansion with a patio that had "Brick Stars" embedded in the concrete, 3 storage barns (I saw used drumheads in one of them).
So, that was that, no Bruce?
Then,in 1980, my band "Escape" was hired by the Stone Pony to open up for a group, we didn't find out who it was until 3 days before the show.
"Bruce Springsteen & the E street band". I said "I'm gonna run into this
guy sooner or later"?
We set up in front of the stage (not much room) and played about 30mins.
When we finished, we moved our equipment to the side by the dressing room hallway and that's where I finally met Bruce.
I'll tell you, one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He said "Sounded good man". We stayed for a few "Bruce" songs then left.
Said hi to him again when we played Big man's West.
And finally (strange as it may seem)went out with his distant cousin Bobbi jo Springsteen from 1999-2001(who later died of alcohol).
Final note: When I had met Bruce, he had "Star" written all over him.
What cosmic plane do you have to be on to achieve this? I'll never know?
Thanks,
Boone
