Ok I vouch for the Gretsch Renown Maple series. I bought these from my good friend Jason Parsons at GC a couple years ago. I was pushed to buy these over any other drumset in the store and it was by far the best recommendation I could have gotten.

We've all put my Renwown maple's through the ringer. Check this out for a ton of audio, video, and etc of this kit with all types of different mic settings, positions, tuning, heads, drummers and etc. This is the most comprehensive look at these drums I assure you:

Definitly go with Gretch.The hardware is identical to their high end kits any usually you can get a free tom thrown in from GC or Sam Ash.

I would have to go with Gretsch. The Catalina has a great sound, you get more drums, and I just think as of late Gretsch makes better drums. Probably one of the most under rated of all the major companies out there.
