Came across this great little exercise device that almost seems to be made just for drummers. Its basically a gyro ball that strengthens the wrist and forearm with a smooth non-impact circular motion. Its the size of a tennis ball so its super convenient to carry in gig or kit bag. This is a GREAT WAY to warm up. This works the wrist and forearm muscles that would be similar to playing a single stroke roll under water with uniform motion resistance in all directions.
Ive been trying to recoup from chronic tennis elbow for the last year including cortisone injections which were only temporary relief. Using this little ball allows the muscles/tendons to rebuild gradually without re-injuring for a true solution. It has noticeably improved my grip, stick control, and endurance. Im telling you, this is SO for drummers.
This has actually been around for many years and I wore out the ones I had. The original was called a DynaBee. The patent ran out and others are now available. I started using it again since getting back into drumming last year and as therapy for the tennis elbow issue.
Click the following links for more info. You can get these at most sporting goods stores for about $20-$25 but I found an ebay seller with new close-out stock selling for $15 to your door. (I actually bought a 5-pack!). Being an engineer, I like the cheap one that has just 2 moving parts. Dont let the videos fool you. Its very difficult to keep it spinning while gripping forcefully as it tries to escape from your hand. Note the motion required to keep it spinning.
Hope you guys will check it out. Im convinced you will agree its the most convenient, easy, and affordable way to improve your playing... Bobby
