I bought a 7 piece HB Goldrush series set with extra boom stands. For the money they are a good buy and the birch shells sound good. At first I wasn't wild about the white & gold combination, but after setup they look very classy. I've played drums for over 40 years and wanted an acoustic set to supplement my Roland V-Drums w/o spending a ton. I wanted a white set w. chrome hardware, but HB didn't offer those with enamel paint, only wraps.
Imo, I don't recommend any thin WRAPPED drum shells, at some point they will wrinkle/wave and look horrible, this is an evolution from the days when manufacturers used a formica type laminate which was more durable. Most of the new "wraps" are not much more than "shelf paper plastic".
I get a lot of compliments on my set and have temporarily removed the bottom heads for recording purposes. The stock heads are fine and sound good, but I ordered Remo Coated Pinstripes to fatten up the sound.
I've played Ludwig, Gretch, Rogers, Slingerland, Tama, Pearl, etc., and for the money, the HB's sound as good as the others. I play all classes of rock, (hard, classic, soft), jazz, fusion, and even a little country. Here's a view of the drums a friend captured with his digital camera in 'movie mode' when we started learning Pink Floyd's Comfortable Numb.

Well, i have to stay at my dads house for the hurricane, (we might evacuate, probably not though) and my drums are at my moms house, we didnt board up anypart of moms house, but we are only going to have 60 mph winds at the moment, and if t gets worse my drums may get hurt, but im bringing my cymbals, which are now the most expensive amount and most portable part of my drums, and if they get hurt mom said she will buy me the x7 kit, i will have to pay her back though.

I remember when the Charlie and all those other hurricane's hit, I had all my drums in storage for months,, being that I was out of my house while it was getting fixed. It felt like the longest couple months of my life!

Well, the hurricane will be hitting my house around Saturday, my drums will most likely be replaced after that :-\, and if they aren't, i will just sell the Tama Rockstar, with everything intact, i could most likely get the pdp with that, birthday money, and my savings.

I gotta go with Keith on this one. But if you only want a six piece go with on of the Gretsch Catalina kits, it's a great deal and they sound great.

I would honestly get the pdp x7 kit because the quality it is much better for the money spent, and with some aftermarket heads, they'll be worth every penny.

How much are  you really looking to spend and are you selling all of your previous cymbals and hardware? If you just want a shell pack most major manufacturers are offering 5 to 6 piece kits for around $800-900 dollars. Most of them include a free tom. Sometimes it's an 8 or a 10, other times it's a floor tom. The HB kit does seem to offer alot of drums so if that's what you want Pacific makes some 7 piece kits as well. What is it exactly that you need?
