Stanton Moore

Dave Heim - Wed, 07/09/2008 - 22:06 | 6,894 views

If you're interested in funky rhythms - especially those with a New Orleans vibe, check out Stanton Moore's book & DVD:

Take it to the Street (book)
Taking it to the Streets (DVD)

Check out Stanton's playing regularly with Galactic and often with Bonerama.  Good stuff.

I was amazed at how simple it was. It's pretty deceiving because it sounds like he's doing a lot more with it than RRLRRLRL. His style is really unique and I love some of the Native American patterns he plays as well. People who have met Stanton have said he's a nice guy...but a bit cocky. Any thoughts?

I've not yet met him face to face, but we've chatted via e-mail.  He didn't strike me as cocky at all - very friendly and helpful.

I have one of his DVD's. Can't remember the title right now but it is a great learning tool. Stanton's style is just so funky! I love it! He does this pattern RRLRRLR where he plays a beat with it moving across the kit and it sounds amazing.....and I stole it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIxxB4c_T-k&feature=related  here's the link to check it out! Great stuff!

Yeah, I've been trying that pattern a lot lately to see where I can fit it in.  Pretty versatile lick and I love all the things he does with it.

Stanton has chops coming out of his ears.  The guy is a monster. His CD "III" is in my car player right now.  Extra funky stuff.  Check it out.
