Last night celebrated the 51^st Annual Grammy Awards in which artists strive for recognition of their musical achievements. One in particular was Central Floridian and living conga legend Giovanni Hidalgo. Giovanni was a one of several musicians featured on Global Drum Project which took home the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album.

The album was the second collaboration of artists Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju, Giovanni Hidalgo since their 1991 release of Planet Drum which went on to earn the first-ever Grammy Award in the World Music category. Originally born in San Juan, Puerto Rico where he received his primary education, Giovanni now resides in Poinciana, FL and is still regarded as the greatest living conga player.
