OK....I've been looking at this thing since it came out in stores and I don't get it. I would like to get it but something tells me " what's the point". It's basically a remote hi hat enclosed within a stand. Sure, the base is probably way more stable than that of a remote but your basically getting the same thing with less adjustability. Priced at $199.99 this stand is anywhere from $60-150 dollars cheaper depending on which remote hi hat stand you want but you have the same issues with the Gibraltar as with the remote. And the Gibraltar stand only offers you UP TO 8 inches of displacement. So I ask you....what is the point. It's a good idea but the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

I don't like that thing. One of my friends got one and the plastic adjusting ball broke already :/

It does have a really weird feel to it. What's awesome is that new Pearl Demon Drive pedal.

I played one at a sam ash, It was so sluggish. Im not sure, maybe some people use it to get some extra power from the 24" that they're hitting. ???

I've played on that pedal before. Not on a gig but at one of the local music stores and it's very....different.

i love Gibraltar hardware, but they do make a lot of useless crap. Like this thing.

Its called a "Catapult Linear Motion Drum Pedal"
when i first saw this i thought. "things that make you go, What the !@#$?" I mean, i see no practical use of that pedal.
Its like a concept car. Its all looks. :-X
As far as the hi hat stand goes. It seems at least applicable in some places, but a remote stand would be much more useful and worth the money.

I use this with my kit but it is the legless version. I play old school double bass. It allows the pedal to sit very close to my left kick pedal, yet at the same time I'm able to swing the hats back from the kick drum and allow me enough space to mount up my 10" an 12" toms over the left kick. My 13" tom and ride sit over the right kick. I also have a 6" and 8" on a stand projecting over the back half of the hats. I use a Tama hoop clamp kit to mount the hats to the kit. I can see that the version with legs is sort of useless. Yes I probably could have got the same deal with a remote Hat but at the time I did not have the 6" and 8" on a stand over the hats, so a clamp mount and the ability to not have the hats come straight up from the back hoop was the way to go for me.

Great Concept, but a remote hi hat pedal does just that, and more.

This is all great feed back. I had wondered about this pedal as well.

I agree, it's a good idea it just needs to be refined. Funny thing is... you know this was approved by multiple drummers before it was released on the market. Did no one say " Hey,can we extend this thing a little more?"

I have to say i like this idea. But it needs to be refined. First, for this idea to work your gonna need to offer more that 8 inches, cause lets think about this concept. Baiscally they are trying to come up with a solution for people who use multiple peadal on their left foot and having to reach for the hihat. But to me i will need more than 8 inches. Secondly you can have a three legged stand. Defeats the whole pupose... Otherwise just go with a remote hihat attached to a cymbal stand or something. I think if they refined this idea and did some re-engineering it would be worth the money. Just my 2 cents.
I have considered buying this, not sure what i will do though.

A 23in kick drum? WOW...that's news to me. Good luck finding a head that size at your local music store. You'd have to buy them in bulk, or only from DW, but I guess that's the whole idea.

Apparently it was the brainchild of Neil Peart. DW ran some full page ads about it in recent issues. I dunno. Falls into the "what's the point?" file for me.

My feelings are the same.
I picture a bunch of marketing guys sitting around thinking: "We need something new. Something nobody else has done... even if nobody really needs it."
Gibralter's guys came up with this hi-hat stand.
And Zildjian came up with painting some of their cymbals black.
And DW came up with a 23" bass drum.
