new sticks

ZeAaron - Thu, 10/22/2009 - 22:04 | 8,077 views

when it comes to sticks, im very limited, living in a town with no music stores, i have to purchase them online, or buy generic sticks from my band teacher.

i absolutley loved the vater 5a gospel sticks, the weight and the length felt great, but ive broken them.

so, any help with new sticks? i like longer sticks about 5a in size.

ps, with wood tipped, the tip itself begins to splinter and i lose chunks of it, changing the sound and feel of the sticks, can i prevent this or should i move over to nylon (which the tip only popped off on me once)

All sticks frey and break, nothing we can do about it. Find a stick you like and feel good about playing with and pick some up! Good luck!

I don't like wood tips either. I use ProMark 747 oak, or Vater 5A the Los Angeles series-good stick. Silverfox makes really durable sticks too but I have to order them because most stores around here don't carry them.

Agreed with Vater 5As. LA series is pretty good if you're not hitting hard or on cracked cymbals, etc. :]

how good are promark compared to vater compared to vics, compared to regal tips in the chipping away and breaking or snapping sense?

haha, thiats one of the pair i was planning on getting, along with Vater 5a sugar maple and vater 5a. thanks.

also, i dont remeber if it was vic firth or vater, but one of the companies claims to garantee there nylon tips not popping off.

Your welcome! I believe VIC claims that garantee. Instead of popping on an already molded nylon tip, VicFirth "casts" the nylon onto the tip. They call it "tip locking" manufacturing process. Vic also mirrors their woodtips so the nylon's are exactly the same shape. See for yourself http://www.vicfirth.com/products/americanclassicN.html.

Hey man, Well with wood tip sticks, most of the time will give you the splinter effect and chip away. It does suck usually the outcome is they end up in the trash can. Nylon tips do fly off and before you know it you have dents in your new heads. My recomendation for you could be the VicFirth 5A Extreme. They are a little bit longer than the regular 5A. Try the nylon tip as well and see if you like it. VicFirth Nylon tips are a little harder to fly away than most, with me. Hope this helps.
