San Jose, California -- The editorial staff at Enter Music Publishing, publishers of drum/percussion magazines worldwide and online, are, well, just a bit tired of having to do all the work. So they’ve devised a way to shift some of their percussive editorial practice to members of their rapidly growing online drumming community.
So, during the week of February 1–7, 2011, drummers from around the world will have the unique opportunity to interview Jason Bittner of Shadows Fall on DRUMmagazine.com’s ”Forum For Fanatics.”
This is not a prank. No editors. No filters or monitoring. Just a direct link from the fans to the artist.
The DRUM! Deal
Jason will log onto DRUMmagazine.com and check the Forum daily during the first week of February to personally answer all questions. As he noted so well: “Whether there are two questions a day or 200, I will do my best to answer them all. I really dug DRUM!’s concept of letting me connect with the drummers and musicians, who have supported me in a direct way. Not to say that I would have not done it even if the editors wanted to monitor. I guess they really could take five on this one."
One Rudimental Requirement
While the weeklong Pro Talk Q&A is open only to DRUMmagazine.com members, registration is free and takes only moments to complete. New members gain immediate access to all of the site’s benefits, including the ability to communicate with other members, comment on articles and lessons, vote in drumming polls, receive email newsletters that keep you informed on the latest drumming news, and be eligible for special promotions.
The scope of the questions will be unlimited, from inquiries into Bittner’s powerful chops and specific signature licks, to more general questions about technique, tuning, grip, touring, recording, miking, speed, soloing, fills, career tips — nothing is off the table.
“We like to regularly reward our online members with special promotions and premiums,” says the company’s editorial director Andy Doerschuk. “For example, late last year we gave away a free pdf minibook about John and Jason Bonham to our members — just because we felt like it! We have plenty of other web-exclusives in the works.”
To register, go to drummagazine.com and look for the “sign-up” link in the upper right-hand corner.
