Having the opportunity to be an educator, no matter what field is an extraordinary thing. Playing a positive influence in someone’s life can be very fulfilling but requires a large amount of responsibility because teaching also encompasses being a role model as well. You want to introduce them to the music but also teach them something about themselves. To me…. I’ve always felt that being a musician is to be involved in something bigger than yourself and that takes discipline, respect, and teamwork- there is also a certain amount of embarrassment as you struggle throughout your indecisions. Humbling as that may be, it’s just all a part of the learning process.
But how does one become a drum instructor and where do you acquire your student base? How do keep them coming back consistently and why should you teach one student differently from another? These are just a few of the things to consider if you want to become an educator in today’s society. Now you can find out the answers to these questions and many more at the Vic Firth Private Drum Teacher Seminar in San Francisco, Ca on 1/11/09. This is a FREE event but you MUST pre-register in order to attend! More information can be found below in the attached email from the Dom Famularo Camp.
