Last evening in over 300 theaters nationwide NCM Fathom and DCI presented "The Countown". A special one night only presentation featuring six full-length performances selected from the 2005, 2006, and 2007 DCI World Championship finalists as chosen by fans. The following corps were featured:
2007 Blue Devils- Winged Victory
2007 Bluecoats- Criminal
2005 Cadets- The Zone
2007 Carolina Crown- Triple Crown
2006 Cavaliers- Machine
2006 Phantom Regiment- Faust
Hosted by veteran DCI broadcasters Steve Rondinaro and Dennis DeLucia,it's amazing how DCI has evolved from black and white footage to stadium seating theaters with THX surround sound. A brief history of each drum corp was given prior to every performance and audience members were also given the special opportunity to score each performance as an official DCI judge to decide the 2008 The Countdown Champion. One of the highlights was a behind the scenes look at the new Lucas Oil Stadium.
DCI has contracted with the City of Indianapolis to hold the Championships at Lucas Oil Stadium every year through 2017, with the exception of 2014. The location of the 2014 Championships is undetermined. After the initial six performances there was a special encore presentation of the very first DCI champions The Anaheim Kingsmen Alumni Corps. Whether you're a newbie or long time follower, The Countdown was about as close as you're going to get to a live show. And in case you were wondering, The Cavaliers have my vote!
