When music is your life and you're part of a band one key to success is possessing originality. Having that unique "sound" people can relate to is essential to obtain musical longevity in a world full of copy cat ensembles and one hit wonders. With each passing decade there are bands within all genres tying to fit a particular mold or formula for success - adhering to certain principals which make it hard to distinguish one from the next. By combining a diverse mixture of rock, reggae, hip hop, and funk, one band has continually stuck out among the rest for over 20 years… 311. Now out on tour promoting their 9th studio album "Uplifter", we took some time to catch up with one of todays most versatile drummers… Chad Sexton himself.
Originally born in Omaha, Nebraska Chad grew up in the 70s with the
rest of his buddies, Nick Hexum, SA Martinez, Pnut and Tim Mahoney, who
together make up 311. With drum corp style chops Chad has an amazing energy that will keep your eyes glued throughout a performance - especially during the solo in“Applied Science”, one of the most anticipated songs at a 311 show. Chad is an inspiration to many and has a signature sound which separates himself from most drummers around. When asked about his sound, he answers with:“It is about 70% how you hit your drum”. Being comfortable and relaxed is the mind set Chad feels while on tour and behind the kit. Some things to look forward to from Chad Sexton are a signature snare, instructional DVD, a possible clinic tour and of course… 311 day every other year!
On behalf of the Drummer Connection crew Id like to thank: Hard Rock Live, Peter (311 office Mgmt), Evan Anderson (311 Tour Mgmt) Barrett aka Bear and of course Chad Sexton.
Love Peace and Unity.
I'd like to see the other 2 videos, but they won't load for me.
Hi, please try again and let us know if you're still having issues.
I'm still having trouble with it. It acts like it's loading, but no matter how long it goes, nothing happens.
