If I had a double-pedal it would only be to use for fills. I don't play the kind of music that requires the sixteenth-note train pattern. I play double strokes fine with my Tama Iron Cobra. I wouldn't mind having one occasionally. I think I would use it the way Peart uses his, by incorporating it into heavy fills. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against double-pedals. Maybe it's because I can't afford one right now.

Double kick pedals are great for metal and a couple other genres, but I dont play metal and I wouldnt use double kick so I stick with a single pedal. I use the slide technique and eventually when Im good enough with it, I can combine toms and my kick to make a double kick sound. Check out Light is still on in Broadmoor by This is a Standoff. He uses one foot and slides it and well you'll listen, its pretty crazy.

I've been playing for a while now, and pretty much I've always had the two bass drums. It just gives a more epic look for your project you are in, or simply, amazes many just by the sight.
Many of our best progressive or straight metal drum/percussionist have two-bass drums, one reason directly is because with a double-bass pedal, you have off-setted the beater-head on the skin, if the two beater-heads are striking a week point (not centered on the skin), your skin breaks or tears.
It may cost more money, but if you fall to a double-bass pedal, you now have a back-up bass drum.
The minus to double-bass drumkits, they are large, and sometimes dependent on the size of the kit, (mine being a 32 piece) schlepping your own equipment around just kind of sucks.
But the feeling of worth is so much more!

you should check out Steve smith explaining the heel-toe method. it's really cool and doesn't compromise power for speed.

i agree with you to a certain extent. There are somethings that you cannot do with a single pedal, regardless of how fast you are.
Check out "This calling" by all that remains and "Blinded in chains" by avenged sevenfold. Those are songs that require double pedal.
I personally use a single pedal and only use double when it is absolutely necessary.

I own a double pedal (mostly for students who want to learn double), but much prefer to play with a single.

For now I'm sticking with singles.. got too much other stuff to focus on. I will tackle the doubles though.. someday!
