What were your first drums/drum set?
Mine were "Starburst" kid drums I got when I was about four or five. Sadly, they died when my brother and his friend wrecked them (he was about seven).
2 "crashes", 1 "snare", 2 "bongos", and 1 "tom-tom" (floor tom). My family still uses the box it came in for Christmas decorations. I never really used them, but I was pretty devastated when they broke.

I've mod'ed mine, but I'm still using too. It's an Orbitone 5 pc kit - I've replaced the drumheads and gotten rid of the original cymbals. Doesn't sound too bad - but it wants to be a Tama Superstar Hyper-Drive when it grows up! lol!

I'm still using mine! Its a CB Drums SP Series 5PC with Evans heads on toms and Remo Ambassador on snare. The cymbals are mish mash of different cheap brands, but i do have a vintage Zildjian 22" Ride. I am going to upgrade at some point, to what I'm not sure yet but its not gonna be cheap set..

It was a white Ludwig that I started playing at my church when I was 10. Not sure what series but it was pre 1987, we later upgraded to.....another white Ludwig, 6piece w/ a Gibralter rack w/ 7 cymbals. I remember having to set it ALL up from scratch not really having a clue what I was doing...but God willing I got the job done!

I'm not certain what brand, but it was wood & I remember having to reinforce the inner shells with small metal brackets because when I tightened the head, the lugs would cave into the shells!! I ended up spray painting it metallic green....glad those days are gone :)

My first kit was a Polaris 5 piece, blue sparkle, one cymbal and highhat,I was about 12 or 13 at the time, played it for a lot of years, and even gigged with it as a teen. Not real expensive, but worked fine.

My first kit (as i just started 4 months ago) is a crappy GP set i got off a friend. 20x14 Bass, 14" snare, 12" tom, and 16" floor tom plus 14" Hi hats and 2 15" 'crash' cymbals which sound terrible and i found out are really 15" hi hats. Half the stands were shot but new stands have fixed that. Now i need new cymbals.

My first kit was this horrible Ludwig fiberboard press kit! the wood was cheap and sounded like crap. the snare didn't even have the snares on it to sound like a snare and I had a differant top and bottom hi-hit I pretty much found from my friends father. Also had a ride cymbal that was paper thin and one horrible crash cymbal, but hey it got me to learn.

First drum set? Rogers. Pink Champagne Sparkle. Dynasonic snare. What a kit. First band I played in, I wasn't the drummer. Our drummer had a blue sparkle St. George Kit (made by Pearl) It was cheap and awesome at the same time. I'll never forget either. Great times.

My first kit was a "melting pot of drums." I had a ludwig bass drum, with yamaha toms and a pearl snare. Now 5 years later I got a Pearl EXR and ELX, with A customs(14hh,16, 17,18, 20"crashes, 22" ride) PorkiePie Snare 7x13, DDrum Snare 7x13. Thank God For ALL that he has given me!

Well, I love big crashes! I play a 18, 20, and a 21" Armand ride that sounds great as a crash. They have great body. Just make sure they aren't to thick or they just start to sound like a gong.

That's what I'm saying...I play Zildjian A Customs, and my 20" ride doesn't crash well...but it is rather thick...I have always loved smaller crashes for my sound...I currently play a 14 and a 16, and a tiny 8" splash.

Yeah a custom rides are WAY too thick to crash. If you want a 20in ride that you can crash check out the K Custom Hybrids...I had my reservations about them but we have them set up on a kit at the store and OH MAN...they're WAY better than I thought they would be. The 20in had a nice bell sound but a good crash sound as well...nice body to it.
p.s. if anyone cares the 18 and 20 sounded fantastic in the studio (and they aren't even mastered yet!) ;) I'm thinking of adding a 19in

My first kit was one of those little yamaha electric pad sets with everything on one unit. It was alright, but not a good way to learn anything in the way of a good habit for drumming. My second kit was actually a 1960s Ludwig classic kit I traded a dirtbike for, but the kit was 100% mine, me and my brother shared it and that wasn't working for me haha. Then I eventually got the kit I have now, the Mapac M series in the Honey Amber finish. Now I jsut recently just got an endorsement through Shine Custom Drums and i'm working on getting a kit made through them. It'll take a while for them to be made and shipped here but it's worth it!

My first kit was a hand-me-down from my uncle, who had lost interest. It wasn't a toy exactly, but it sure was in sad shape. It was a Kent (not Kent Custom from Buffalo) 3-piece, and neither the tom nor the bass drum had res heads on them. Blue Sparkle shells were so in back in 1995. Camber hi-hats and a ride with rivet holes but no rivets. Believe it or not, I actually played my first gig with that thing.

My first kit was a mixed up bunch of Slingerland drums. The stained wood grain 22" kick and 16" floor tom were from one kit and the mounted toms were a matched set of 12" and 13" black wrapped concert toms. The cymbals were decent quality Zildjians.

Man I can't even remember the first kiot I had. It was a hand-me-down from my dad (I still play on the 1970's Zildjian Ping Ride, and New Beats he gave me with it!) which was later destroyed by a bunch of kids (who I now hold a grudge against) I then Purchased an Enforcer kit for $500 >_< whih I played on for about 3 years before upgrading to a Pacific MX series. I still use the Pacific ti gig out and the enforcer was stacked up in my bed room until earlier this week, and is now my practice kit! (I refuse to get rid of it) It sounds good for what it is!

I'm still using my first kit. ha. I got it 6 years ago. Yamaha Stage Custom. Fusion toms, 10", 12", 14" (smaller so you can fit about 5 where 3 normal ones could fit. I still only have the 3 though. - I only use the 12 and 14. I put the Ride where the middle tom goes) 22" Bass, snare, zildjian cymbals (had to replace a few of these. i break them - I have a shard of my first 16" ZBT crash on a neclace) I would love a Mapex, but my SC its holdin up pretty well. xD

My first kit was a Ludwig kit made from a couple different sets because I remember one of the toms was orange and the rest of the kit was red. I remember playing in my living room along to Steve Miller bands - 'Book of dreams' album (if that's any hint to how old - and cranky I am. Look up 'Swingtown' and play that lick - With the same High hat beat. It's so cool it's hot!
I then got a used Rogers kit. 7 piece, - all black. The largest toms (14" and 16") didn't have the hardware for bottom heads. I bought a set of rototoms to go with it and could never find the 'Right' place to put them on the set without removing some of the other toms. I took this set (without the rotos) to Korea with me when I was in the Air Force - because Korean's love a drummer neighbor as much as Americans!
Since then I've had a Tama Imperial Star that a Great friend gave me. A set of Pearl Exports and now I have my Mapex Saturns. This will probably be my last set unless I hit the lottery.
