Lately I've been trying to expand upon my linear playing...especially when it comes to drum fills. I can find alot of videos online but I want to see what you guys are made of. There are too many people copying the same celebrity drummer fill you can think of. Every now and then it helps to steal from a new source OOPS....I mean learn :]

There's a drummer by the name of Steve Gadd, he has awesome linear grooves and fills. His video is called 'Master Series'.

Steve Gadd is awesome. I went to his clinic in San Jose CA back in 2007. One of the best clinics Ive attended.

What are linear drum fills? As opposed to non-linear fills?

A simple explanation would be where you play patterns that are played where no two limbs strike together. In other words you don't strike your snare and toms or bass drum together.

If you get a chance to catch a Carmine Appice clinic, he devotes a good amount of time to linear playing and fills. I caught his clinic at the Chicago Drum Show in May - he was a huge hit. And he never changes - he still looks the same!
