Cheap nice cymbals

pdpdrummerify94 - Fri, 07/23/2010 - 14:41 | 1,237 views

I am a drummer looking for cymbals that are cheap, but still have a nice quality. I know when i entered the drumming world that this would be expensive and I'm kinda on a strict budget. any help is appreciated. open to any ideas besides stealing from places.

There are plenty of used cymbals laying around that people will get rid of. You can try searching Craigslist if you want to, although I've found some seller to be a bit shady on how they sell. It's a bit risky since you might get a dud, no warranty of any sort, but if you find one, you can get an excellent cymbal.

If you are looking at new cymbals, Zildjian ZHT, Sabian XS20, Paiste PST5, and Meinl MCS or HCS are all good starting places. Or if you can purchase things off the interweb (or live close to their store), you can look at the Sabian SR2 cymbals at Memphis Drum Shop. Basically these are cymbals that were returned and were refurbished in their factory. They are all B20 bronze cymbals, however, they are only listed by size and weight, so they can be an HHX, an AAX, something for the Vault series, you never know. These are very cheap considering their offering with cymbals ranging from $100 to $200. Could land yourself with some nifty professional cymbals for cheap. ;)

Congrats!

Splashes are easy to come by, quality chinas are a bit harder. Just give it some time. :)

If a strict budget is the theme of your cymbal purchasing, I'd say stick to craigslist or search your local music stores for some good used cymbals. I see some amazing items go for CHEAP daily. Today this dude in Tampa has vintage Zildjian A's and a vintage Rodgers by Azco(maybe Zilco) each for 100.00! The 22's, both heavy, would be perfect for rock and damn near indestructible! I see this constantly but have way too many cymbals to buy any more. Another thought is to put an add in the buy/sell forum looking for pies. MAKE SURE YOU HEAR IT BEFORE YOU BUY! If you must have NEW cymbals, all the major brands have cheap models available. Brands of interest for lower end stuff(as they make good quality in this range) would be Meinl, Dream, or Paiste.

Wuhan chinas are awesome they come from like 10"-26" I think. They sound pretty good and almost all are under $100.
