I need help!!!, Is there anyway I can muffle my whole drum kit?

Tdog672000 - Sat, 07/03/2010 - 12:39 | 3,035 views

My family decided to rent off the floor above us. We haven't put it into play yet but it's going to happen. So since drumming is my life, I thought ahead and realized I need to muffle my kit so I won't annoy them. Is there anyway I can do that Cymbals and all? Assistance would be much appreciated, and we might be switching floors so sound proofing my new room would take forever so most time/cost efficient idea would be best.

Another option would be to get a pearl rhythm traveler kit which come with mesh heads and padding for cymbals. Or get mesh head for your kit...

you could throw a t shirt or a rag between your head and the actual drum on the batter side and that will make it quite a bit quieter. or you could get the real feel muffler or just get like a piece of plastic/rubber and put it on the heads

When I lived at home I used to put towels over the heads and clip tea towels over the cymbals to stop the sustain. I left the hats alone. I taped a thin cushion on the outside of the kick batter. The noise was muffled but still had pitch so it wasnt too bad for in house practice.

Vic Firth sells a drum mute set. They are rubber pads that sit on both the drums and cymbals. They work great and still give you a good feel. I've got a set and they do the job.
