Vintage Premier Drum Sizes, 16 1/4" ???

dano3000 - Mon, 10/12/2009 - 08:59 | 9,229 views

Hi Guys,
I've been refurbishing an old Premier floor tom that I got from a friend. I don't exactly know what yaer but I'm guessing somewhere in the 60s. Anyway finally finished remounting all the hardware and was going to put a brand new 16 inch Evans G1 coated on it when "Lo and Behold" the drumhead was slightly smaller than the drum itself. when I measured the diameter of the drum it came out to be about 16 1/4" ! Whats up with that?!?! More importantly, where can I find a 16 1/4" drumhead for this guy. Anyone ever hear of this problem with Premier drums?? I put the old heads back on but I can't see them lasting much longer. HALP!!!

Hi
I've seen that Premier have set up a new official Facebook page - might be worth checking it out.

I've heard of 16" 1/4 before, usually they go along with kits with smaller sizes, ever seen an 18 inch Bass Drum before? Yeah, sounds retarded I know... But it is fun to mess around with when you are at the drumshops or clinics.
Anyway, try hitting up Musician's Friend, they got great stuff there, you could probably even find one used in their Scratch n' Dent section.
Guitarcenter.com is also a great place to hit up, just hit their drum/percussion section and I am totally sure you can find something there, and their Used Gear is always cool to check out!
But honestly, I have never heard of Premier having smaller sizes then the standards, so... that answers your question I hope.
Keep the beat bro!

Are you sure it's 16 1/4? Maybe you measured it wrong or the drum is completely out of whack... Maybe it's an 18, hmm that's odd

Ok took the head off and remeasured. It measures 16 1/8 edge to edge all the way around. At least I know its not out of round :) Also when I lay the new drumhead against the old one the is definately a size difference where the old head is just slightly larger than the new Evans head.
