Hi everybody!

I'm Seth, from VA. I've been playing for 8 years now and I still think drums are the best instrument in the world!

Anyway, I've got a question that I've been wondering about. I've had an electric drum kit for a year and I've broken a couple of the pads because I get a little too passionate. My kit is a Roland, but I was wondering if any, a lot, or all of the different brand names are interchangeable...? It would make sense why they would be because they're primarily just rubber and a sensor, but I don't want to assume that if I got say...a Pintech pad that it would work on my kit.

If anyone knows the answer, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks a lot!

Hey Seth. Welcome to the site. Like that funny handle you have ;-) Lots good stuff and people here. Recommend checking out the Drumless Tracks and Drum Lesson videos. Dont know if this will help, but all the pads on my Yamaha DTX4s (bass, cym, drum, hats) have an adjustment to control the output level of the pad itself. Ive seen the guys in the Drum Lessons videos playing other brands of e-drums, maybe they have some experience in mixing pads from different mfrs...

Hey, thanks for the welcome! Thank you for the info, too! I'll ask some of those guys about it. I figured pads like the higher-grade Yamaha's wouldn't be mixable because of the special individual adjustments, but I was thinking maybe pads that only have one or two sensors as per usual would be...I'll keep asking around. Thanks again! :)

Actually I was thinking the Yamaha pads might be more compatible because they DO have that output level adjustment on each pad. In any case, this has 'triggered' my interest (I know..corny) because Im surprised this information isnt more available considering how common this might be. I came across something that might help. Alesis has a product related to this issue called 'Trigger|iO'. There's a review at

http://www.musicplayers.com/reviews/drums/2007/1107_Alesis_TriggerIO.php

which says "Alesis states that the Trigger|iO is compatible with various manufacturers’ pad triggers including Alesis, Roland, and Yamaha. A Trigger|iO Compatibility Guide is available on their website that provides specific pad compatibility and setting information for many different pad manufacturers."

Check out http://www.alesis.com/triggerio

Now its totally bugging me about not knowing the answer to this excellent question. Please let me know what you find out.
