Darryl "Thunderfoot" Johnson - Drummer and Drum Instructor - Interview with Eric Rosebrock

On October 14, 2009 Eric Rosebrock / drumfreak visited Carlton Music in Winter Haven, FL to interview a local drummer who has had an astonishing history of over 42 years of professional drumming in everything from Big Band, Rock, Orchestra and almost every flavor music. He's a gigging drummer, always ready to jump behind the kit and let loose. Darryl Johnson has been educating students for over 30 years in Central Florida. He's performed with the Over 55 Band in his most recent drumming experiences. The Over 55 band, which is a band for musicians over 55 years of age, is based on big band and Jazz styles. The Over 55 Band has a motto "We will go down Swinging..." and Darryl is joined by a wonderful group of musicians sharing their love for the Swing of music.

Darryl is heavily influenced by the late Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson and Jim Chapin; The Ambassador of Drumming - Dom Famularo, Tommy Igoe and many other drummers he has crossed paths with. To this day, Darryl Johnson still believes in the foundation his influences have laid for all of us drummers to embrace.
