This is a video of drummer Matt Shorty playing "Chop Suey!" by System of a Down.
...and yes, he plays drums barefoot. Many rock drummers do!
Drum kit:
Mapex M Birch 7 piece with Remo Ebony Pinstripe heads
Recording:
Mixed down to ONE stereo track, then recorded. No multi-track recorders!
The drums were recorded dry, then used EQ, compression, and reverb after recording.
Software/hardware - Pro Tools LE 7.1/Mbox 2
Mics -
Sennheiser e835 on the bass drum
A stereo PZM overhead on the chair behind him.
The drums sound great considering there are very few microphones used.

I totally agree! They sound like they do on the album, dead with a slight tone. I guess alot of that is down to the ebony pinstripes!Look and sound amazing! Good Job man! keep it up!
