Evans EMAD Bass Drum Head 22"

Tom Benjock - Wed, 03/23/2011 - 14:15 | 2,525 views

I just changed heads to the one listed above on the batter side of my bass drum. It seems that this head is not as "quick" as my previous head. I use mondo doubles with one pedal and they used to flow very quickly and evenly. Now it seems like it's a LOT of work to get the same beats.

Is there a batter side head that is "quicker" in response. I heard Aquarian is good. And Remo makes a good one. I was just trying to go with one brand on the kit. Pretty sad when an original Sonor (Remo) head on a Sonor Force 2007 kit is better than a brand-new Evans EMAD?

I suppose I could try cranking the crap out of it, but then I'll lose the tone I want?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, because since I've already put the head on the drum, of course the music store won't take it back... even though it's virtually brand new... knuckleheads.

Thanks

Tommy

I've been pretty surprised with Aquarian... they came on my set and I kept them until they wore out unlike most of the heads that come on sets now-a-days but when I did upgrade I got the remo power sonic and its great!! couldn't be happier, it sounds great and it has a detachable dampener which is really nice. I hope that helps a little, sorry I dont know much about Evans drum heads

It's really about preference. An Emad is a more dampened head so I would presume that it would have less rebound because the drum head is dampened. Really, what you need to do is do some research on all the bass drum heads and pick out like 3 or 4 that you like. Go to a drum store and have them bring all those heads out, but before you buy one, do a tap test to see which one rebounds the best to your liking. Then you would buy that one and you would be a happy camper. Hope this helps you.

Alright update for you... I cranked it up.. kept the tone, and it's a little better. So it's workable. But if anyone can compare and contrast the differences in the EMAD vs. the Aquarian vs. the REMO... feel free to post here... thanks.
