I would think a nice set for you to try that isn't overly expensive is the Pearl Export Series. These drums look and sound great for the money, one thing though you might want to change the snare. New, you are probally looking at 500 to 700 dollars and you can find these used for dirt cheap! also try a Gretsch Catalina a 4 piece kit for around 500 ( hardware not included. Good luck in your search!
