DW 5000 or 8000 Pedal?

ringochris - Mon, 09/13/2010 - 15:57 | 1,819 views

Hi fellow drummers,

I'm about to buy a new bass drum pedal, and I've wanted to try a DW 5000 for a while since using a friends at a gig. I loved the 5000, but I was tempted to buy an 8000 thinking it might be even better. Anyone had experience of the 8000? I did some searching, and found a thread where a couple of people were complaing about the 8000 breaking springs. Apparently they were replaced by DW, and it could be isolated incidents, or a bad batch of springs. It just worried me a bit when I read it. Should I just go for the 5000?

Any input gratefully received!

All the best,
Chris

The 8000 are actually 2 steps down in the quality they are made. As far as I can tell it goes from best to worst 9000, 5000, 7000, 8000, I know it dosent make any sence. I think there is also a 1000 series and then steps wwwwayyy down to pdp. I have a 5000 and im about ready to part with it. Its slowly falling apart and wearing out. The quality is not as good as say a Pearl. The pedal im thinking of getting is either an AXIS or Pearl driect drive pedal. I have alot of problems with chain slack and spring tension on my 5000.

I STAND CORRECTED THEN AS I MAY HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THE 9000 HERE. I UNDERSTOOD IT AS 9000, 8000, 5000, 7000, THEN 3000 IN THAT ORDER. APOLOGIZE IN ADVANCE IN I WAS INCORRECT IN GIVING INFO. I DO REMEMBER THE 8000 HAVING A MORE PROGRESSIVE FEEL THAN LINEAR LIKE THE 5000. THE CAM IS MOSTLY A PART OF THAT.

Yea, I think thats what they ment it to be which would make sence but looking at and playing the pedals you find that thats not the case. So you were actually right I think.

MY SWITCH TO IRON COBRAS FROM DW WAS SHOCKING. I KICKED MYSELF IN THE ASS FOR NOT CHANGING SOONER. HOWEVER, IF THAT IS THE CHOICE REMEMBER THIS. IF IT IS A MODERN FEEL YOU LIKE, THE 8000 IS GOOD. I PREFER THE 5000 AS IT IS VERY NEUTRAL AND DOES ALL GENRES GREAT. MY VOTE, 5000.
