On my set at home i noticed that my drums sound a bit ringy. Im looking into either getting moon gel for each drum or those e rings. i have two squares of moon gel and i tested those out and i kinda like the sound. i have never heard the e rings on a drum. so i you could post some thing with the e rings. i hear good things about the rings. any help welcome

Check out the EC2 Coated heads from Evans. Very effective in taking out the over tones while leaving a really nice clean warm tom sound. Of course it is all a preference. I like my snare to ring a lot. If you are playing live you may want your toms to be a lot more "Live" sounding and open. If you are in studio you may want a tighter more controlled sound. I have used the rings but they can get caught up in your sticks. That's fun while doing a show.

thanks for the advice. i'll check out the ec2. my friend has those. i haave a nice snare that doesnt ring alot. i have a pearl elite sensitone. love that snare more than any other snare ive heard. but i have remo emperors on all my toms. but still have the stock resonators. im saving up the thirty bucks to get btr reso heads. the erings are working well. havnt fallen off yet, in the two days ive had them. ive played with brushes on the toms and even those sliding up didnt knock them. thanks for the advice. i also havent giged once yet...im trying to find a band.

thanks. i just went to my local percussion store, midwest percussion. there is an awsome dude bhind the counter named arty. i buy most of my stuff from him. he told me he prefered the e rings. so i bought those for 8 bucks including tax. i just put them on and played around. i love the sound they make. thanx for the advice. i considered the remo rings to. every one has there own sound but im trying to record my own playing and for one those notes were really iritating on the recording. so im glad i got these. any ideas for cheap microphone sets for a five piece plus two condensers?

To answer the question, yes the Evans and Aquarian rings do an amazing job of eliminating the ringy overtones. You'll want to make sure you do not let them get a crease in them. This will make the ring buzz a little and makes it more likely for you to knock it off with your stick while playing. If you can try some and you like the sound I'd suggest going with Remo Muffles. They are rings that sit under the head making it impossible to swat it off the drum, and gives a "cleaner" look. That said, ringing in the drums is a combination of many things with head choice and tuning being the main contributors. Even a properly tuned drum will ring when hit off center. Some of us actually like and use this sound to our advantage.
