As an older drummer that has been away from a set for a while I have found that I have lost all limb independence. My right foot (bass) and my right hand want to follow the same rhythms and I have always had issues with my hi hat foot independence.
what steps can I take to try to break all of these bad issues.
Thanks

Turn your set into a left-handed kit. Do everything backwards. Left hand Ride, Right hand Snare, Left foot Bass Drum and Right foot Hi-hats...
Start with the simplest patterns and work your way up to more complicated patterns.

wow, I've not heard that before, but when I think about it, it would probably work.

cb122,
The best thing I found is to not "over think" limb independence... I found the more I thought about it, the more I screwed it up. That and some great exercises! Good Luck!

Start with the feet. 8th notes on the high hat while practicing various beats on the right. I love the book Syncopation that gives you tons of beats to practice to create independence of all your limbs.
