Here's a track we just cut on my back porch, then took into the studio and Billy, Cash and myself laid down some percussion parts. This started out as inspiration from Rammstein's Engel. Tracy played this for me this morning and the pulse hit me just right. We had a studio day planned with nothing really set in stone, so when Billy and Cash came over, we sat down and listened to Engel. Then we listened to Hey Man Nice Shot by Filter, and Cash already had ideas flowing. We kept it in 4/4 at 96 BPM the same tempo as Engel. I forced Billy to lay down a structure, and then Cash laid down the bass, the guitars, and a synth or two. Billy recorded the shakers in the sound booth with Cash using real shakers. I came in afterwards and put down the Tibetan Singing bowls, bells and gongs with my iPhone and then I played my hand against a huge ass LP Cowbell and added some percussion parts. I have a whole new respect for Pilots as yourself having to deal with chaos in the head phones and still keep focus on the mission. In this case the mission is keeping in lock with the bass line and the click.
